MPhil students visit EDF and Hinkley Point C
We were very grateful to our hosts at Hinkley Point C for touring us around the UK’s first new nuclear power station to be built in over 20 years. The construction site was immense and the size of the cranes cannot be envisaged unless you visit!
The world’s largest crane, known as ‘Big Carl’ can reach higher than the tallest tower at London’s Canary Wharf and can carry 5,000 tonnes in a single lift.
We look forward to another visit next year when we can see what progress has been made towards completion in 2028.
Our visit down South concluded with very informative and interesting talks by members of EDF Edvance (a joint venture between EDF and Framatome). They updated us on the projects they are working on at the moment, together with careers opportunities for our Nuclear Energy MPhil Students.
